Sustainable Living Centre

The SLC holds events and gatherings that celebrate our inter connectedness with nature and the seasons. These events connect communities and give opportunity to share knowledge.

We also provide spaces for others to hold events ranging from art classes, performances, storytelling, movies and gatherings.

Sustainable Living Month

PEOPLE’S PANTRY

Date: Saturday, May 4th 2024, 10am-4pm

Entry: FREE

People’s Pantry is a community event where surplus food from the SLC is harvested and processed.

Come along to learn about food preservation, connect with others and take home some yummy food! No experience is needed to take part.

The final products are shared between volunteers, the SLC and Mōhua Social Services food bank.

This time we will be preserving apples, feijoas, capsicums and chillies.

FRUIT PRUNING WORKSHOP

Date: Sunday, May 5th 2024, 10am-2pm

Entry: $55

Bring: Pruning tools and gloves if you have them

Come and learn all about how to prune your fruit trees to support their health and productivity for the years ahead.

Facilitated by permaculturalist and local gardening expert Sol Morgan

Vegan lunch is provided.

COMPOSTING WORKSHOP

Date: Saturday, May 11th 2024, 1pm-5pm

Entry: FREE

Bring: Notebook and pen, gardening gloves, sturdy footwear, wet weather gear in case of rain

Learn how to turn your green waste into fertile soil with composting.

Facilitated by Sol Morgan and Prashanti Lovegrove.

REPAIR CAFÉ

Date: Sunday, May 12th 2024, 10am-4pm

Repair Cafes are free pop-up events where folks bring in their broken or damaged belongings and local volunteer experts do their best to help repair them. The aim is to help reduce waste, make better use of resources, and foster a culture of repair in Āotearoa.

Come and get free assistance with simple repairs such as:

  • Clothing & fabric

  • Small furniture or miscellaneous

  • Household items

  • Bicycles

  • Toys
